Masters of Flow Visualization

The Masters of Flow Visualization (MFV) returns for its third edition at ISFV22 Madrid, following the first edition at ISFV20 and the second at ISFV21. The event brings young researchers together to learn from leading experts and to put their own visualization skills into practice, celebrating the idea that flow visualization is as much a craft as it is a measurement technique.

The event

How it works

The Masters of Flow Visualization will take place on Sunday, 11 July 2027 at the Campus Madrid - Puerta de Toledo, on the opening day of ISFV22.

The event opens with masterclasses given by the invited experts on the selected techniques. Participants then combine their own experience with what they have just learned to carry out a practical experiment. Working in teams of three to four, they design and perform a visualization, which a panel of experts evaluates on both technical execution and scientific creativity.

Participation

How to apply

Participation is by application. Interested ISFV22 participants are asked to submit:

  • a letter of motivation describing their interest, experience and visualization work;
  • a photo;
  • a title and a short abstract (150–200 words).

The application platform and detailed instructions will be published here. The application deadline will match the conference abstract deadline, 15 January 2027; selected applicants will be notified afterwards.

Who can apply

The event is open to young researchers — graduate students, postdocs and early-career researchers from academia or industry. An affinity with one or more flow visualization techniques is welcome. Participation is free, but limited to registered ISFV22 attendees.

Awards

The best-performing team across the selected flow visualization techniques will be recognized at the end of the event.
